What do Physiotherapists do?
What do Physiotherapists do?
A Physiotherapist's goal is to get you moving. This means getting you to a place where you can be at your best functional capacity, maintaining that and then helping you to prevent future injuries.
Everybody's different. You might have completely different signs and symptoms than your friend. A Physiotherapist is trained to customize a rehabilitation program specifically for you that also includes any other health conditions you might be experiencing, your age, and your activity level.

Why does muscle matter?
Physiotherapy is not age-related, in fact, many individuals of all ages participate in physiotherapy for different reasons. However, most individuals who are experiencing sarcopenia(muscle weakness) tend to be of the older age group. They usually tend to experience sarcopenia because of the lack of muscle utilization throughout the years. Physiotherapy helps them gain back their strength and muscle function, as well as improve their quality of life. However, if muscle strengthening and physiotherapy were to be implied throughout their life, starting at a young age, they would never have experienced muscle weakness and loss in the first place.
Dr Brendan Egan in his talk focuses on Sarcopenia, a disease involving age related wasting of muscle, and talks about the connections with other diseases, including cancer and diabetes, and he encourages us to change our lifestyles now in order to keep our muscles strong as we age.
